Research and Creative Work

Peru State faculty are annually required to provide "evidence of continuing preparation and study through scholarly and/or creative activities and achievements related to the primary area of employment and/or supporting scholarship of teaching and learning" (SCEA Agreement, p. 9).

Article of the SCEA Agreement provides a list of potential achievements and projects that may be included in scholarly and creative activity. The information here provides resources for Peru State faculty to assist with their work in this area.

Scholarly and creative work is documented each year on the Professional Activities Report (PAR).

Submission or Publication of Scholarly Work

Work in this area includes published books or treatises and publication in professional or scholarly journals; submission of material for publication or evidence of research in progress leading toward scholarly publication; or articles in publications in trade, popular, or regional periodicals.

Exhibition or Performance of Creative Works

This category includes exhibition of creative works, show and performance credits when they are appropriate to the field of study. Examples includes, but not limited to: exhibiting at an art show, conducting a choral clinic, or symphony performances.


Classroom Research

This category includes student academic performance and achievement, pedagogy, course and curriculum development, and assessment of student learning. Additionally, development of courses and/or curriculum which contribute to student learning and academic achievement can be considered.

Presentations To and Positions in Professional Organizations

Examples of this work includes, but is not limited to: presenting a paper at a professional conference, participating on panels at professional conferences, serving as program chair for a professional conference, serving as an officer of a professional organization, serving as Editor/Guest Editor, or on the Editorial Board, of a professional publication appropriate to the field of study, serving as chair or chair/critic for professional presentations.

Consulting Activities

These activities may include translating documents for school districts or other service agencies, consulting with a school board to prepare district policies and procedures manuals, conducting workshops for businesses, schools, or agencies, authoring/co-authoring/editing state curriculum guides for the State Department of Education, review of art exhibit, safety consulting for industry, scientific consulting, reviewing grants.

Student Research

This category includes sponsoring and directing student research projects that lead to publication and/or presentation by the student and faculty member in professional venues.

Obtaining Additional Degrees or Certifications

Professional Development Funds can be used to acquire a degree other than the required minimum degree at the time of the initial appointment or an appropriate professional certificate.
